It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Experience Dubrovnik’s Magical Advent
19. Dezember 2024.When the historical stones of Dubrovnik are decorated with holiday lights, one of the most magical times of the year begins.
When you think of Dubrovnik, most people picture summer and the sea. But did you know it’s also the perfect destination for a holiday getaway in winter? During the winter season, Dubrovnik transforms into a winter fairy tale. The city comes alive with shimmering lights, casting a magical glow that makes it feel as though you’ve stepped into a storybook. With its cultural richness, culinary delights, and live music performances, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Experience Advent in Dubrovnik
During the 11th Dubrovnik Winter Festival, the city offers a variety of events for all generations. Throughout the entire city, there are festive activities for everyone. In Lapad, for example, you’ll find something for the youngest visitors, or anyone who feels that way, with an ice skating rink and a train ride. Don’t miss the North Pole Station at Lazareti and the arrival of Santa Claus from Lapland at the Rector’s Palace, as well as concerts at the Vojnović Advent area. The heart of the festival is Stradun, where festive stalls offer a wide range of delicious food, and the music program is not to be missed. The New Year’s Eve celebration will be especially spectacular, with global music star Zucchero welcoming Dubrovnik into 2025.
Gastronomy – A Holiday Experience Through Traditional Taste
Enjoying festive treats is an essential part of the experience. At the food stalls along Stradun and Poljana, visitors can sample traditional treats such as sausages, and warm up with mulled wine, hot gin, or tea. Don’t miss out on trying Dubrovnik’s prikle (also known as fritule), small, deep-fried dough balls that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. These sweet treats are often dusted with powdered sugar and sometimes flavored with a touch of lemon or chocolate. They are typically enjoyed with a cup of warm beverage, making them perfect for a cozy winter snack.
In addition to music and gastronomy, the festival offers a range of perks, such as free bus transportation with Libertas buses during the afternoon and evening, and discounted entries to the city’s landmarks.
